Flash Trickery
[May 10, 2009; Photography]

Pictures taken with flash are usually crap, because they look flat, pale and boring. A while ago I learned that this problem could be overcome by using flash(s) which are placed independent of the camera. This kind of setup is very time consuming however, so I seldom do this.

This weekend I discovered that a single flash with zoom capability can add a nice torch light feeling to pictures, when used at a far larger focal length than the lens. This effect really comes in handy for lost places photography.

For this picture the flash coverage was set to 105mm for a lens at 10mm (*1.6).
