Keywords: k3b, dvd, burning, suse
Versions: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002, VIA vt82c686a

When used to burn DVDs with K3B, the drive will hang itself after a while an become unavailable until the machine is rebooted.

It appears that the problem does not exist when using UDMA for data transfers.

SuSE 9.1 and earlier version do not enable DMA for those drive on default. DMA can be enabled using YaST or temporarily by issuing

hdparm -d 1
